What We Do

The Zadie Project works to combat food insecurity for families and seniors in Atlanta. We do this in 2 ways.

1. Make nutritious and delicious soups from August through April and work with local organizations to distribute the quarts to individuals and families in need, and

2. Educate the community on the possibilities of urban gardening and the importance of making healthy food choices all year long.

We partner with school programs, neighborhood community clubs, children's homes, senior citizen facilities, homeless food banks, and homeless youth outreach programs. These community partners create safe and enriching environments for children and seniors who struggle to access or afford enough nutritional food.

soup making & distribution

We make seasonal soups on a weekly basis at Souper Jenny Westside from August to April. Working with community partners, and a team of our own volunteers, we get quarts of healthy, delicious soup into the hands and bellies of those that need it most.

CLASSES @ The souper farm

The Souper Farm strives to empower communities through educational gardening classes and learning opportunities that allow children and adults to see where their food comes from and how easy it is to have your own garden. We’d love to host your class, garden organization, or group of friends with an interest in gardening.

Sustainable food education

Our program in schools, and community centers, where we teach children and adults how to eat and fuel your body, along with discussing the importance of fresh ingredients and how to prepare them.

Why We Do It?

Did you know that 28.2% of children in Georgia don't always know where they will find their next meal? How about the fact that the rate of food insecurity among seniors has increased 68% in the last 10 years? Access to healthy, nutritious food is at an all time low in Georgia and it's time to get involved. We plan to help change the face of hunger in our community.

How We Do It?

For each bowl of My Dad’s Turkey Chili sold at Souper Jenny, they donate the cost of that chili back to The Zadie Project. Those funds then go towards the expenses of making and packaging seasonal soups into quart containers during the cold weather months. We then work with local organizations to get them to those families that need it most.

As of October, 2024 we have donated 170,000 quarts of soup and have taught over twenty-five classes through after-school programs in Title 1 schools, at community centers, and at The Souper Farm at Souper Jenny Westside.

Get Involved!

We are really excited with how far we've grown, and how much we are able to contribute to the community. We are confident that we can reach even more people with a few helping hands. Here's how you can help...

Sign Up For a Program

Knowledge is power. Let us know if you'd like to arrange a class or workshop at your site or at ours!

Volunteer

Lend a hand, or a ladle. We always need help in the kitchen with packaging and labeling our soups. Farmer Jeff always needs extra hands on the farm. We package the quarts of soup each Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 - 10:30AM at our Westside location. If you need volunteer hours for school or want a project for your work team, let us know!

Make a Donation

We have big dreams, but not a very big budget. Any amount, even $5 a month, is SO helpful and appreciated. All contributions are tax-deductible!

OUR MISSION

The Zadie Project is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization helping to feed and educate children, families and seniors affected by food insecurity in Atlanta.

Jenny Levison, owner of  Souper Jenny chose the name to honor her father, Jarvin Levison who is known as Zadie (yiddish for grandfather).

"He is my inspiration for cooking and my motivation for getting involved in my community,” says Jenny. “He also gave me my very first soup recipe, My Dad's Turkey Chili."  For every bowl of My Dad's Turkey Chili sold, Souper Jenny donates the cost to fund a portion of the cooking and packaging of hundreds of quarts of soup to help feed hungry kids and seniors right here in Atlanta.
